It has been replaced by a functional parking spot and running, unsustainable vehicles. We also were not able to find a new location so the art project has been sent to the scrap yard. I'm not very happy about its ending but I do feel thatWildleafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07697667487205343161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7810907696967237068.post-46781472710128128042008-05-28T23:21:00.000-07:002009-08-16T18:39:58.451-07:00The mural. We painted it the project to an environmental theme! The school allows graffiti only on one green dumpster so I've decided in order to keep people from painting random stuff all over it I am organizing quarterly mural paint jobs. That way students can express themselves and the art project can stay a part of campus life.Wildleafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07697667487205343161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7810907696967237068.post-58980873101349557152008-01-24T15:44:00.000-08:002008-01-26T12:49:50.751-08:00Saved till 2009!The Black Car is staying on campus until 2009 thanks to the support of the Evergreen State College community! We are planning a series of projects around promoting the concepts behind the art work. The idea that sustainability means giving up your personal gas guzzler should come as no surprise yet most people ignore this fact. After less than a year the project may be forced to move to a location of uncertain whereabouts or to the landfill if no place can be found. This may happen despite the fact that it was built well enough to last as social commentary for many years to come. Please show up at the meeting Wildleafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07697667487205343161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7810907696967237068.post-34234198826668683432008-01-18T16:01:00.000-08:002008-01-26T12:56:42.180-08:00Article in the Cooper Point JournalGlobal warming is the elephant in the room that Americans for years have tried their best to avoid noticing. Despite the great skill we have at avoidance and distraction some problems just won’t go away. The science predicts a worldwide catastrophe of droughts, fires, erratic weather, extreme temperatures and strengthening storms. The Black Car Collective made it into Evergreen Alumni Magazine! I am in Ecuador right now so I have no idea what it says however I am grateful for the exposure. Many people are commenting as well with a diversity of opinions some positive, some negative. I would like to respond to both by asking the people who comment to respond to the other comments they disagree with and e-mail me with Wildleafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07697667487205343161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7810907696967237068.post-43087428472654353652007-09-04T10:01:00.000-07:002008-01-26T12:58:12.774-08:00Make your own art from a car!The Black Car Project isn't complete. We are now looking for individuals who are willing to make their own climate change statement. We want one person from every school in the country to create their very own decommissioned "art car". The idea is instead of a functional art car we want a non-functional car that is a statement on global warming to pop up in parking lots across the country. It took a long time to finally decide on what look we wanted for the car in our attempt to decommission it. We went through a variety of different ideas. These ideas went with general themes that followed roughly the idea of the death of the auto. We were messing with the ideas of tombs, gardens, and mosaics. We recently had another website publish our image. Art Not Oil, a part of Rising Tide UK, added our image and web address. Once the sculpture is painted black, now that the cement has cured, we will take a few more photos and send out a press release. Of course we really don't need much official press instead we just need word of e-mail.Wildleafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07697667487205343161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7810907696967237068.post-85178891084774597492007-07-03T16:01:00.000-07:002008-01-26T12:52:29.169-08:00Paint it black. At the end of July and beginning of August we will paint the sculpture black. We waited so that the stucco could cure for 6 weeks. Even though it was only grey at graduation and super Saturday we got a lot of feedback in our comment book that we left there. We also had over 200 flyers taken, they were out everytime I stopped by!The comments ranged the gambit from people who were really excited Wildleafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07697667487205343161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7810907696967237068.post-17068448767172532012007-06-15T19:26:00.000-07:002009-08-16T18:44:13.458-07:00AutovoidBlack Car Project Global warming is real and caused by humans. There were close to 50 bikers carrying signs with slogans like "Global Warming is Terrorism" and "Bikes are Sexy."
